Stop the Roadkill-Bosch Commercial

Bunraku-style Puppetry

This commercial was shot on location on an unused road in Queens, New York.

These Puppets were puppeteered “Bunraku-Style”, meaning we had three puppeteers performing each character. We had several teams of puppeteers working on characters, but we would use passes of the camera to only capture two characters at a time which were then put together in post-production so the shot would then contain all characters dancing.

The puppeteers were all highly trained and experienced with Bunraku-style puppetry having spent several seasons working on shows such as “Big, Big, World” and “Book of Pooh” that used this style of puppetry exclusively.

This meant that all puppeteers were able to avoid “rod-crosses” work fluidly as a team and perform choreographed movement on a tight shooting schedule.
