Santa Monica Classic 10K (almost)

August 08, 2024

The Santa Moinca Classic is a race that takes place in Santa Monica. Part of the route follows along what historically used to be the end of the Los Angeles Marathon. Since 2020 the Marathon route has ended at Century City, but previously it was the “Stadium to the Sea.” Staring at Dodger Stadium and ending in Santa Monica along the Pacific Ocean.

In the days leading up to the Santa Monica Classic race officials sent out emails letting runners know that they were changing the race due to the severe hot weather. They had cancelled the 10K and were just going to do a 5K. Plus there was going to be an earlier start.

Ater some email feedback, they said that there could be an option for the 10K but it would be running the 5K course twice.

When I arrived and picked up my bib at 5:30 AM it was already 80 degrees F (26.6 degrees C). By the time I finished the race the temperature had climbed to 91 degrees! (32.7 C)

It was still a beutiful morning, and thanks to water stations and salt tablets I felt good during the whole run.

Finished with a smile.

A 10K is officially 10.2 Miles. My Garmin watch said 6.06 miles. I’ll take it.
